In a school bus crash in southern Minnesota, the driver died and 7 teenagers were hurt.
A tragic accident unfolded as a school bus collided with another vehicle, resulting in the loss of a driver’s life and causing injuries to several teenagers in southern Minnesota.
The incident took place on a Saturday evening around 8:40 p.m., near the intersection of Interstate 90 and Highway 22 in Faribault County. The school bus, owned by Waseca Public Schools, was transporting the high school volleyball teams at the time of the crash.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the school bus was traveling eastbound on I-90 when it collided with a westbound Ford Mustang driven by 55-year-old Mark Alan Tigner from Brandon, South Dakota. Tragically, Tigner was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash led to the hospitalization of seven teenagers, with ages ranging from 14 to 16 years old. While their injuries were not life-threatening, they were taken to Albert Lea Hospital for medical treatment.
Remarkably, the school bus driver and a 24-year-old woman who was also on the bus escaped the accident without any injuries.
Addressing the unfortunate incident, Waseca Public Schools released a statement on Sunday, reassuring everyone that no students or staff members from Waseca were seriously harmed. The school authorities expressed their commitment to providing support to the students and families affected by the traumatic event.
The road conditions were reported as dry during the time of the crash, and it was noted that the driver of the Mustang was wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred.
