LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on a fateful Sunday night, Shively police have taken a significant step towards justice by apprehending a man linked to a fatal hit-and-run. The incident occurred at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Crums Lane at approximately 8:50 p.m. on that tragic night.

At the scene of the accident, officers discovered 26-year-old Dimitric Dryden-Danzy, who had sustained critical injuries. Swiftly, they rushed him to UofL Hospital, though the outcome was tragically devastating as he was later pronounced dead.

Dimitrios Danzy, father of the hit-and-run victim, recounted his harrowing journey to the hospital. “Me and my wife was on rush to U of L hospital. When I got there, they sat me in a room with a chaplain, so I knew it wasn’t good,” he solemnly shared.

Dimitric Dryden-Danzy’s life had its share of challenges, having been born with Down Syndrome and a heart condition. Despite these obstacles, he was a resilient soul who overcame adversity. He successfully graduated from Western High School and went on to join the workforce, demonstrating remarkable determination.

Reflecting on his son’s journey, Danzy spoke fondly of Dryden-Danzy’s independence and zest for life. “He just became his own little man. He was adept at taking the bus and exploring various places. He worked at the barbershop. He liked making money. He was the life of the party,” Danzy recalled, a testament to his son’s vibrant spirit.

Authorities have taken a significant step forward in this case by arresting 37-year-old Joseph Martin in connection to the hit-and-run incident. Following a thorough investigation, law enforcement identified Martin as the driver responsible for striking Dryden-Danzy and fleeing the scene.

Shively Police Sgt. Jordan Brown shed light on the investigation, noting that witnesses provided crucial information about the vehicle involved in the incident. “In this instance, witnesses did indeed provide descriptions of the fleeing vehicle, ultimately identified as a red Ford Ranger”, as confirmed by Sgt. Brown.

Joseph Martin now faces serious charges that include vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid, and operating without a valid license. He is currently in custody at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

When he was a child, I used to cradle him in my arms constantly. He was so small. I had him in basketball. He liked staying up under me, but when he got older, he was like ‘daddy I’m grown now,’ I said ok.” These words serve as a poignant reminder of the irreplaceable bond between a father and his son, making the pursuit of justice all the more crucial.
