Mercy Hospital Responds to the Escape

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The St. Louis County Police Department is actively pursuing a man who managed to evade custody at Mercy Hospital South. In a press conference held earlier today, a spokesperson from the county police department stated that they have mobilized all necessary resources to address this unfolding situation.

Lindbergh Schools has announced the implementation of lockout procedures this morning in response to the escaped inmate situation. While classes are still in session, the school has taken precautionary measures, including keeping exterior doors locked and enhancing security during student arrival. Additionally, law enforcement officers are conducting searches of vehicles in the vicinity, and a drone has been deployed to monitor a parking lot.

According to an official statement, the escape was reported at 4:30 a.m. in the 10000 block of Kennerly Road. The escaped inmate has been identified as Tommy Wayne Boyd, aged 45, who had been transferred to Mercy Hospital South from the Potosi Correctional Facility for medical treatment on Wednesday. The last known sighting of Boyd occurred just before 4 a.m. on Thursday, as reported by hospital staff.

Surveillance footage captures Boyd exiting the hospital premises on foot, heading in an undisclosed direction.

Boyd is characterized as being approximately 5′7″ in height, weighing 154 pounds, and displaying balding hair along with a beard. At the time of his disappearance, he was attired in a black sweatshirt, a black jacket, and orange slippers. Authorities caution that he should be regarded as a potential threat, though it remains uncertain whether he is armed.

Boyd is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence within the Missouri Department of Corrections for the offense of statutory sodomy.

Mercy South Hospital issued the following statement earlier today:

Early this morning, a prison inmate in the custody of two correction officers escaped custody while at Mercy South. There was no physical confrontation, no one was hurt, and video surveillance, which we have shared with police, shows the escapee leaving the hospital. There is no evidence he is still on campus, but to ensure the safety of everyone, we are conducting a complete search of all our buildings. We continue to assist St. Louis County Police in their search and investigation.

If anyone encounters Boyd, it is crucial to promptly dial 911. Residents are strongly encouraged to maintain awareness of their surroundings and exercise caution.
