A tragic incident unfolded in Hueytown during the early hours of Monday when a young man lost his life in a shooting. The unfortunate incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the 2500 block of 19th Street North, right near the Exxon gas station. The police swiftly cordoned off the area to investigate the situation.

The victim, identified as 21-year-old Romeo Bruce Bankhead, was pronounced dead at 4:09 a.m. Bankhead was a resident of Bessemer, and his untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the community.

As of now, authorities have not disclosed any additional details regarding the shooting. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain shrouded in mystery, leaving the community in search of answers and closure.

This marks the third homicide in Hueytown this year, the second in just over a week. It’s important to note that law enforcement officials have clarified that today’s tragic incident is not connected to the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy that occurred last weekend. These are two separate and unrelated events that have unfortunately struck the town in quick succession.

Looking at the broader picture, the entire Jefferson County has witnessed a total of 149 homicides, with three of them occurring right here in Hueytown. The rising number of such incidents serves as a stark reminder of the challenges law enforcement and the community face in addressing these issues.
