Graham’s Stern Warning to Iran: ‘Prepare for Our Response if You Escalate the Conflict’

Senator Lindsey Graham stated, “I would view a substantial attack on Israel by Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy, as a direct threat to the State of Israel.”
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) issued a warning to Iran on Sunday, characterizing Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, as “an Iranian proxy” and cautioning that Iran would face repercussions if Hezbollah were to intensify the volatile situation along Israel’s northern border. During an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Graham remarked, “If Hezbollah, which operates as an Iranian proxy, were to launch a large-scale attack on Israel, I would regard it as an existential threat to the State of Israel.”
“I intend to propose a resolution within the United States Senate, enabling joint military action by the United States and Israel to disrupt Iran’s involvement in the oil industry,” he stated. “Iran, should you escalate this conflict, be prepared for our response. We are prepared to take action.”
Graham, a prominent advocate of foreign policy, also derided the notion that Iran had no role in the October 7 attack led by Hamas on Israel’s southern border as “absurd.” While Iranian officials praised Hamas’ operation, they initially denied any involvement in the attack.
American and Israeli authorities have expressed uncertainty about Iran’s involvement in the attack. However, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces assured POLITICO that they were “completely certain that the Iranians were not caught off guard” by the attack.
Hezbollah fighters reportedly carried out a missile strike on an Israeli northern border village on Sunday, resulting in the death of at least one person and injuries to three others, as reported by the militant group and Israeli medics, as cited by Reuters.
An Israeli military spokesperson issued a caution to Hezbollah on Sunday.
“I strongly advise Hezbollah to closely observe the developments involving Hamas and their actions in Gaza at this moment,” Lt. Col. (retired) Peter Lerner mentioned during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.” “If they are considering any similar actions, they should exercise extreme caution before crossing that line, as we are resolute in safeguarding the security of the State of Israel.”
