At least 6 people shot at Louisville, Kentucky restaurant

Regrettably, an adult man was declared deceased at the scene, according to Deputy Chief Steve Healey of the LMPD. Another adult man succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital, law enforcement reported.

The five individuals who sustained injuries during the incident are presently receiving care at local hospitals. Among them, four seem to have injuries that are not life-threatening, while the condition of the fifth victim remains uncertain, stated Deputy Chief Healey.

The investigation into this tragic event is currently ongoing. Notably, the authorities do not believe that the suspect or suspects were engaged in random acts of violence, Deputy Chief Healey clarified.

This distressing occurrence marks one of the 474 mass shootings documented in the United States thus far in 2023, as reported by the Gun Violence Archive. This organization, much like CNN, defines mass shootings as incidents where four or more individuals are either wounded or killed, excluding the perpetrator.

Local law enforcement noted that the Southern Restaurant & Lounge has received numerous complaints concerning noise disturbances and individuals obstructing sidewalks and traffic.

Interestingly, it was known that the business had been sold and was slated to be closed from September 1 onward, as per Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Bates of the LMPD. However, contrary to this information, the establishment was open last night when the tragic event unfolded.

Attempts to obtain a statement from the Southern Restaurant & Lounge by reporters are currently underway.

Furthermore, the lease for the business will be terminated by August 31, according to the mayor of Louisville.

Based on preliminary information, the police estimate that around 200 to 300 people were present in the vicinity at the time of the shooting. Law enforcement has reached out to the public for any assistance in providing information related to the incident.

The tragic event sheds light on the ongoing issue of gun violence and its devastating consequences. Authorities are working diligently to uncover the motives behind the incident and to piece together the details surrounding the tragic event on that fateful night.
