Browns’ Quarterback Dilemma

Browns’ Quarterback Uncertainty: Navigating Challenges and Considering Options

The Pittsburgh Steelers might be up against the Cleveland Browns’ backup quarterback. It’s possible that the Steelers won’t have to face Deshaun Watson for a second time this season because the Browns’ starting quarterback may be placed on Injured Reserve due to a shoulder injury.

Watson was absent from Weeks 5 and 6 for the Browns due to his shoulder injury. He made a brief return in Week 7 when they played against the Indianapolis Colts, but he had to leave the game in the first quarter after being sacked. Although he was initially evaluated for a concussion following the hit, he was later cleared. Nonetheless, he remained on the sidelines, with head coach Kevin Stefanski citing a cautious approach to the situation.

Currently, uncertainties surround Deshaun Watson’s near-future participation due to his shoulder condition. When inquired about the possibility of Watson being placed on Injured Reserve, Coach Stefanski mentioned that the team is assessing the situation on a day-to-day basis.

Should the Browns’ quarterback indeed be placed on Injured Reserve, he will be sidelined for a minimum of the next four weeks. The earliest he could return would be in Week 12, immediately following the Browns’ game against the Steelers.

In their initial encounter, Watson completed 22 of 40 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown but also had an interception. Pittsburgh secured a 26-22 victory over Cleveland, with T.J. Watt’s game-winning scoop and score playing a pivotal role.

If Watson is unable to play against the Steelers, it seems likely that P.J. Walker will continue as the team’s starting quarterback. Walker has been primarily on the practice squad, with game-day elevations when necessary. However, this arrangement may need to change if Watson is expected to miss an extended period of time.
